Hoop Skirts and Boas

Quite a bit has happened since I last blogged. I barely know where to begin. First of all, lets hear a big WHOOP, WHOOP! The Kentucky Wildcats are the SEC Champions! Way to go Cats! Now, on to become the National Champions!
A few weeks ago, I had 10 of my girlies over for Mary Kay facials. We had so much fun! My Mary Kay consultant, Tina is just a doll. She brought me a pink boa, which I adore and inspired me to run grab my tiara and slap that on my head. She did a total glamour makeover on me. I loved it and had to buy all the glamour products. However, they only cost me 3 bucks and some change. I didn't know it at the time, but I got $10 for every guest at the party. I'm so glad I have friends! All women should get together with their girlfriends to do girly things every now and then. Do each others nails, go shopping, curl each others hair, anything! Renew and refresh your female friendships.
It's been a long Winter, with no re-enacting. I've been dying to get back into a hoop skirt and last Friday I got my chance. Michael and I went to Johnson County, down in Eastern KY to do a school day w/ our friends Raven and Jessica. I had just received my new 6 bone hoop in the mail on Thursday so I was really excited to see how big my black Rose Greenhow dress would appear.  At school days, I do a persona of Rose O'Neale Greenhow who was a Confederate spy. The 5th and 6th graders we spoke with were great. One cute little girl in a pink blouse asked me if when we left there did we have to go back to the war. Another asked if Raven was a real Indian and if he was Miss Hamilton's (Jessica's) Indian. You just never know what kids are going to ask you at these things! I enjoy doing school days and believe they are important to keep history alive and to assure our children learn the true stories of our ancestors.
I'm trying to include an easy craft in my blogs. I finally finished 1 yesterday that I've been putting off. A few months ago my Homemakers club made chalkboards but I finally decorated mine last night. Most home improvement and/or hardware stores or cabinet factories discard irregular cabinte doors and will let you have them. Buy chalk board paint and paint the center and there you have a chalk board. You can either paint the sides to decorate, leave it plain or use border. I searched for teapot border but couldn't find any so I bought border in colors I liked and cut out little teapots free hand and gued them down one side. It's simple and inexpensive.
Until next time, Happy HomeFaking!
